This is not a "little thing" but an idea I had for battleship scale tech 3 ships. There have been many requests under many different topics for new mining ships and larger industrial/ hauling ships(or mini frieghters depending on how you look at it) with solid tanks.
My idea is that in addition to the normal subsystems that would be comparable to those offered for the Tech3 cruiser that there be subsystems for mining and cargo. A tech 3 battleship would already have a great tank, but being able to add mining lazer bonuses or even strip miner capability by way of a subsystem that would go in the offensive slot, it would fit the request of a new null sec mining ship. It should not out mine the HULK but be slightly less efficient, with a very tough tank. Something that could solo mine in Null without fear of rats or small gank squads.
The cargo subsystem should go in the defensive slot giving you the option of sacrificing tank for cargo space. The ship should, with the cargo subsystem, combined with cargo rigs, and expanders be able to reach +100,000m3 of cargo space and still have a tank comparable to a tech 2 battleship. Basically a mini freighter with a really good tank.
I would also like to see a small jumpdrive subsystem (in the propulsion slot of course)comparable to what the blackops ships have.Short range and able to jump to either covert cyno's or regular cyno's.
It would also be really cool to add a subsystem that allows the tech 3 battleship to equip capital weapon systems much like the tier 3 battlecruisers that can use battleship weapons.
With these four subsystems added to the regular subsystems we would expect based on what the tech 3 cruisers have, you would not only be supplying a new tougher battleship bridging the gap between subcaps and capital ships, but at the same time be filled the niche for a new mini frieghter and a new null sec mining ship.
imagine a fleet of t3 battleships with paper thin tanks but sporting capital weapons capable of taking out dreads and even super caps if they do not have a supporting fleet.
imagine a mining ship that can mine close to the yield of a hulk but has a tank that would take several battleships to break.
imagine a mining ship again with yield close to a hulk but rather than the tough tank has a short range jump drive and a huge cargo hold.
imagine converting a tech 3 battleship into a mini jump freighter with huge cargo space and a short range jump drive.
These things and many more would all be possible if tech 3 battleships were introduced with a few extra creative subsystems. |
